The Era was the first shoe designed by skateboarders, for skateboarders, in 1976. Then we BMXers took it and ran. It debuted the famous padded collar and the Off The Wall heel tab, and it's still the shoe of choice for BMXers, skaters, surfers, and creatives worldwide.
When Stevie Van Doren approached us about the 35-year Supercross BMX / Vans collaboration, we picked two shoes, and the Era had to be one of them. Back in the day we'd go to the Vans store in Anaheim, Torrance, or Redondo Beach, and since we couldn't afford a pair, we'd buy just one shoe. The right one usually wore out first from using it as a brake — side-pulls were terrible — so we'd end up with mismatched shoes. It became a trend among us broke BMXers in the early '80s: one Red/Blue/Red, one Gold/Blue/Gold. Stevie let us bring that back with the mismatched tongues — one red, one blue — plus the bright yellow eyelet by the Supercross "95" logo.
